I am a PhD candidate in International and Advanced Japanese Studies at the University of Tsukuba. My research applies computational text analysis to Japanese online discourse, with a focus on toxicity, hate speech, and political communication.

My dissertation is a computational study of hostility in Japanese anonymous news commentary, based on a complete corpus of 5channel’s Newsplus board (2017–2026). It combines large-scale text analysis with human-in-the-loop annotation to measure toxicity and hate speech in Japanese. Alongside the dissertation, I work on public discourse around AI and emerging technologies in Japan, and on quantitative analysis of National Diet records.

Research interests: computational political communication; Japanese online discourse; online hostility, toxicity and hate speech; framing and agenda setting; AI discourse in Japan; text-as-data methods for Japanese.
